Societe Generale SA hired John Jansen as the banks West Coast co-head with responsibility for technology, media and telecommunications investment banking, according to people familiar with the move. Jansen, UBS Group AGs former head of technology mergers and acquisitions, will be based out of the French banks planned Menlo Park, California, office, the people said, asking for anonymity to discuss an appointment that isnt yet public. Hell report to Krzysztof Walenczak, head of investment banking in the Americas, and Jeff Mortara, head of technology investment banking and global co-head of equity capital markets.

John is the Managing Director and Head of Technology Mergers & Acquisitions at UBS, a position he has held since January 2022. Prior to this, he served as Managing Director and Head of Technology M&A at Mizuho Americas from November 2016 to January 2022. He was a Director in Technology M&A Investment Banking at RBC Capital Markets from January 2011 to November 2016. Before that, he worked as a Vice President/Associate in Investment Banking at Canaccord Genuity Inc. from 2008 to 2011 and as an Associate in Investment Banking at Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. from 2007 to 2008.

Earlier in his career, John was an Associate in Investment Banking at Vrolyk & Co. from 2006 to 2007. He co-founded and served as CEO of Arcxis Biotechnologies from 2004 to 2006. From July 1999 to August 2003, he worked as a Capital Markets Trader and in Business Development at Charles Schwab.

John holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Maryland - Robert H. Smith School of Business (2003 - 2005) and a BA in Political Science and International Relations from the University of California, Davis (1994 - 1999).

Barclays CEO in Italy, Enrico Chiapparoli, will leave the British lender to head Societe Generale in his home country from Nov. 11, the French bank said. As country head for Italy, Chiapparoli will have direct supervision of global banking and investor solutions in the country, reporting to Alvaro Huete, deputy head of global banking and advisory for Societe Generale. He has 30-year experience in the Italian corporate and investment banking industry and has also been responsible for Barclays Central Eastern Europe and EMEA Automotive. Chiapparoli will replace Alessandro Gumier, who will retire at the end of 2024.

Alessandro is the Chief Country Officer for Italy and Head of Coverage and Investment Banking at Societe Generale Corporate and Investment Banking (SGCIB), a position he has held since January 2017. Prior to this, he served as Head of Global Corporate Banking Italy at Merrill Lynch from April 2009 to December 2016. From February 2006 to April 2009, he was the Country Executive and Head of Investment Banking at Bank of America. He began his career at UniCredit, where he was Head of Investment Banking from May 1998 until May 2005. Alessandro also worked at Citi as Head of Derivatives and Capital Market Distribution from May 1986 to May 1998 and was a Credit Analyst at Standard Chartered Bank from May 1984 to May 1986.

He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in International Finance from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, studying from 1979 to 1983.
