Swiss Re, a reinsurance provider, has recently appointed AXIS’ Peter Mondi as Head of Distribution Management, North America.
He joins Swiss Re after an eight-month stint at AXIS Capital, where he served as Strategic Broker Relationship Leader, Global Distribution.

Russell Higginbotham is leaving reinsurance giant Swiss Re after three decades with the company, with Jonathan Rake taking over as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Swiss Re Solutions, effective January 1st, 2025. Rake joined Swiss Re from Zurich in 2016 as CEO Singapore, Head of South East Asia, and since July 2017 has held the role of CEO Asia Pacific at Swiss Re Corporate Solutions. Hes now been promoted to lead Swiss Re Solutions, the division where the firm provides solutions to clients, including technology. Higginbotham has served as CEO of the unit since April 2022, having previously served as CEO Reinsurance Asia, CEO Reinsurance EMEA, and Head of Life & Health Products, as well as numerous other roles in his 30 year tenure with Swiss Re. "It has been a privilege to work for such an amazing company, working across all (re)insurance markets around the world, living in four different countries and meeting countless incredible colleagues and clients," said Higginbotham. "Ill look forward to working with my successor Jonathan Rake to ensure a smooth transition and then taking a bit of time out." As Rake takes on his new role, Robert Hunziker, Head Property & Specialty APAC, assumes his responsibilities in the interim, Swiss Re confirmed. Russell is a Drummer at MöGG, having joined the firm in January 2024. Prior to this, he held eight roles at Swiss Re from December 1994, including CEO of Swiss Re Solutions, CEO of Reinsurance Asia, CEO of Reinsurance EMEA, Head of Life & Health Products, CEO of Swiss Re UK & Ireland, CEO of Australia & New Zealand, Head of Japan & Korea, and Head of New Business. Before his tenure at Swiss Re, he was an Assistant Manager at Munich Re from December 1991 to December 1994. Additionally, he worked as a Senior Marketing Analyst at Provident Mutual Life Assurance Association from 1990 to 1991.

Jonathan is the CEO of Asia Pacific at Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, a position he has held since July 2017. Prior to this, he served as CEO of Singapore and Head of Southeast Asia at Swiss Re from September 2016 until July 2017. He transitioned to Swiss Re after leaving Zurich Financial Services in September 2016, where he had worked since March 2008. During his tenure at Zurich, he held various roles including Country CEO/CEO of General Insurance for Singapore, Head of Corporate, Business Development and Operations, and COO of Global Corporate Asia Pacific. Before that, he was with Zurich Financial Services, Global Corporate from May 2002 to March 2008, serving as Strategy Assistant to the CEO of Global Corporate, Vice President and Head of Strategy & Business Research for SRM Europe, and Business Analyst for Zurich Corporate Solutions. His career began at ABN AMRO Bank NV, where he worked as a Marketing Analyst for Wholesale Clients from May 2000 to May 2002.

Jonathan completed the YGL Global Leadership Program in Global Leadership and Public Policy for the 21st Century at Harvard Kennedy School in 2019. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics, Accountancy, and Business Law from Stellenbosch University, which he completed from 1997 to 2000.

She succeeds Mark Gregory who will retire from the Company in March of 2025 following a career that spans five decades in the industry including 15 years with AXIS. Ms. Mitchell, who will be based in London, will assume the role of Head of Global Markets on January 1, 2025 as part of a planned leadership succession process and will report to AXIS President and CEO Vince Tizzio. Prior to AXIS, Mr. Gregory spent 15 years at Marsh where he held a series of leadership positions including CEO roles for both Bowring Marsh and Marsh Global Markets. He started his insurance career with Sedgwick Group in 1980. In addition, Mr. Gregory has served on the Boards of both the International Underwriting Association (IUA) and Lloyds Market Association (LMA). Sara is the Divisional President for Continental Europe & the Middle East, North Africa at Chubb, a role she has held since June 2021. She has been with Chubb for 13 years and 7 months, previously serving as Divisional President, Head of Corporate Division UK&I, Vice President of Specialty Personal Lines for Europe, AsiaPac & Eurasia, and Director of Specialty Personal Lines for Europe & Eurasia. Prior to her current position, she was Head of Schemes - Commercial from June 2006 to March 2011, and held roles as Chief of Staff and Broker Development Manager - Risk Solutions at RSA. Between September 2002 and May 2006, she worked in various roles at Allianz Insurance.
