

Global (re)insurer MS Amlin has strengthened its risk and compliance function with two new senior hires. Ruth Adamson will join the firm as head of insurance and financial risk, while Kevin Ball will join as head of compliance. Both will report to chief risk officer Vishal Desai when they join MS Amlin later this year.




Adamson brings with her 17 years of risk management experience, and for the past eight years has worked as head of risk and governance for AEGIS London. Prior to this, she also spent time at Aspen Re. Adamson graduated from the University of Cambridge and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).

Ball has over 20 years of experience in the insurance industry and has also worked at Hiscox with its operations team. According to his LinkedIn, he has certificates and licences from the International Compliance Association (ICA), FinTech Global, University of St Andrews, and the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).</p>

<p>Lloyds global reinsurer MS Amlin has appointed Paul Lucas as chief actuary.<br><br>Lucas will be responsible for all actuarial operations, including reserving and pricing, while supporting the business strategic long-term growth objectives.<br><br>The appointee will be based in London and report to MS Amlins chief financial officer Jessie Burrows.<br><br>He will join the business at the end of Q1 2025.<br><br>Burrows said the appointment underscored MS Amlins "commitment to strengthening actuarial rigour and resilience".<br><br>She added: "With more than 20 years in the industry, Lucas deep actuarial expertise and nuanced understanding of todays complex (re)insurance landscape make him a valuable addition to the team.<br><br>"His leadership will be pivotal as we focus on enhanced pricing precision and disciplined financial and capital management to drive continued strong and sustainable financial outcomes."<br><br>Lucas joins MS Amlin from Westfield Speciality Insurance, where he served as the international chief actuary.<br><br>Lucas also influenced the strategic direction of the business during a transition period, with Argo selling Syndicate 1200 to Westfield in 2023.<br><br>Before the sale, Lucas worked at Argo International as chief actuary.<br><br>Prior to Argo, Lucas spent over 11 years at Aspen Insurance Group, joining as a casualty reinsurance pricing actuary in 2007 before progressing to group head of risk management and cat risk management.<br><br>He started his career as a UK property and casualty pricing actuary at Converium in 2001.<br><br>Burrows said: "Im delighted to welcome Lucas to MS Amlin."</p>

Paul is the Chief Actuary - International at Westfield Specialty Insurance, a position he has held since February 2023. Prior to this, he served as Chief Actuary International at Argo Group from November 2018 to February 2023. His career at Aspen Insurance Group spanned from March 2007 to November 2018, where he held multiple roles including Group Head of Risk, Global Insurance Chief Actuary, Group Chief Pricing Actuary, Head of International Insurance Pricing, Finpro Insurance Pricing Actuary, and Casualty Reinsurance Pricing Actuary. From September 2001 to September 2006, he worked as a Pricing Actuary at Converium.

Paul earned a Master of Science in Operational Research and a Bachelors degree in Mathematics from the University of Birmingham.

<p>Lloyds global re/insurer MS Amlin has hired Direct Line Groups Emma Snowdon as Head of Capital Management and Investments, where she will be based in London, reporting to Chief Finance Officer, Jessie Burrows.<br><br>As Head of Capital Management and Investments, she will be expected to hold responsibility for the firms capital modelling, capital strategy, and investment portfolio management initiatives, supporting the organisations long-term growth objectives and financial resilience.<br><br>Overall, Snowdon brings more than two decades of industry expertise towards her new role.<br><br>She boasts a strong background in oversight of capital management, financial strategy, and investments in addition to financial risk management and reserving.<br><br>She joins MS Amlin from Direct Line Group where she worked at for over a decade, most recently serving as Director of Insurance and Financial Risk, where she was responsible for leading financial and insurance risk oversight across the firm. Prior to that, she served as Head of Insurance Risk at the company.<br><br>Before she joined Direct Line Group, Snowdon worked at Zurich, where she served as a Global Corporate and Discontinued Business Actuarial Business Partner, leading the reserving teams for the Global Corporate and Discontinued businesses, as well as supporting regulatory compliance too.<br><br>In addition, Snowdon began her career in the insurance industry by working as a consultant in the Non-Life Actuarial<br><br>Department at PwC.<br><br>During her time in this role, she led the reserving, audit, and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) assignments for a variety of different clients and provided actuarial guidance for Schemes of Arrangement and Part VII transfers.<br><br>"We are excited to welcome Emma to the team. Emma is the Head of Capital Management and Investments at MS Amlin, a position she has held since September 2024. Prior to this, she worked at Direct Line Group from October 2013 to February 2024, serving as Head of Insurance Risk and later as Director of Financial and Insurance Risk. Before joining Direct Line Group, Emma was the Chief Reserving Actuary for GCUK at Zurich Insurance Company Ltd from December 2010 to September 2013. Her career began at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she worked from September 1997 to December 2010, progressing from Graduate to Principal Consultant (Senior Manager).

Emma holds a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, which she completed between 1993 and 1997.

<p>Lloyds global insurer and reinsurer MS Amlin has hired Catherine Healy from HDI Global Specialty as Head of Property & Crisis Management Claims.<br><br>In her new role, Healy assumes responsibility for the management and oversight of claims for commercial property, property binders, transportation, and crisis management.<br><br>She will be based in London and will report to Clare Constable, Chief Claims Officer, and form part of the re/insurers claims leadership team.<br><br>Healy brings more than two decades of Lloyds experience to MS Amlin, with a strong track-record of managing delegated authority accounts and complex claims in several jurisdictions. She brings experience across multiple lines of business including Property, Casualty, Crisis Response, and Accident & Health.<br><br>She joins from HDI Global Specialty where she was Delegated Authority Claims Manager responsible for the delegated authority claims portfolio which included Property, Casualty, Cyber, and Accident & Health.<br><br>Previously, she served as Claims Manager for Specialty Programs at Brit Global Speciality before joining Accelerant Insurance in 2019 where she was a Claims Manager for Property and Liability accounts.<br><br>"Catherine brings with her a wealth of claims knowledge and experience, and we are excited to welcome her on board.
